PINELLAS COUNTY, FL– Pinellas County tax collector offices are collecting sock donations for local non-profit, Clothes to Kids, through a Sock it to Us! initiative this summer.

Clothes to Kids serves Pinellas County, and its mission is to provide new and gently used clothing to low-income or in crisis school-age children, free of charge. They have provided over 300,000 clothing items to children in 2022 alone.

To aid in the effort of building the self-esteem of children in the county, tax collector offices will have Clothes to Kids Sock it to Us! donation bins available starting June 1. Based on current needs, Clothes to Kids encourages donations of new girls and ladies’ socks. Monetary donations can also be made by scanning the Clothes to Kids QR code, which will be displayed in all offices.

Every year, tax collector employees suggest and vote for a non-profit to support with internal fundraising through the Thread of Hope program. This program gives employees the opportunity to break the usual dress code and participate in a themed clothing day when they donate at least $3 – with all proceeds going to the selected charity. The 2023 charity is Clothes to Kids, and along with the Thread of Hope program, tax collector team members wanted to find another way to support this local non-profit and the Sock it to Us! was the perfect solution.

“Community is one of our values here at the Tax Collector’s office, and it is upheld daily in each of our offices,” Tax Collector Charles W. Thomas said, “We are always looking for ways to support our community beyond our in-office services and we are very excited to partner with Clothes to Kids this year.”
