PINELLAS COUNTY, FL– The sky’s the limit this April as Pinellas County Tax Collector offices partner with Donate Life Florida for National Donate Life Month. This year’s star-studded theme is “Donors are Super Stars,” celebrating those who register to become life-saving organ donors.

Tax collector employees will wear Donate Life t-shirts in April to promote this life-saving cause. April 12th is National Blue & Green Day, where customers and employees are encouraged to wear blue and green, the Donate Life colors, to help spread awareness about the importance of organ donation.

“This cause is something we support not just during Donate Life month, but year-round, as it’s especially significant for our organization because some of our team members and their families have either been ‘living donors’ themselves or benefited from organ donation,” said Pinellas County Tax Collector, Charles W. Thomas. “It is a great honor for us to contribute to this cause and help all those Floridian families who are waiting for that life-saving call that a donation is available.”

According to Donate Life, over 100,000 men, women, and children are waiting for lifesaving organ transplants. Even the largest football stadium in the U.S. could not fit the number of people currently waiting on the national transplant list. Those who register as organ donors can help more than 75 people in need.

Donate Life Florida is a non-profit organization dedicated to motivating Floridians to register as organ, tissue, and eye donors. If you’ve ever visited a Pinellas County Tax Collector’s office, you’ve probably been asked if you’d like to become an organ donor. This month, the offices will create “Donors are Super Stars” wall displays showcasing all the customers who donate or register as organ donors. Find more info about Donate Life Florida online at donatelifeflorida.org.

Each year, the tax collector’s office supports six Florida non-profits, chosen from submitted applications based on each organization’s mission and local impact. Donate Life Florida is the third chosen non-profit for 2024.
