PINELLAS COUNTY, FL —October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and Pinellas County tax collector offices are proud to partner with the Florida Breast Cancer Foundation (FBCF) to raise funds and spread awareness for a great cause.

Tax collector employees will invite customers to buy or renew the “End Breast Cancer” specialty plate during October. The money collected from the specialty plate supports breast cancer education and medical research programs for Florida residents. License plate sales have raised over $9.5 million for state institutions and nonprofits to educate Floridians about breast cancer and support innovative research to diagnose, treat, and cure breast cancer.

Throughout the promotional month, customers who switch to the specialty plate or donate $5 or more to this worthy cause will receive a reusable tote bag as a token of appreciation. Every Wednesday in October, tax collector employees will dress in pink Breast Cancer Foundation t-shirts to help raise awareness and engage their customers.

“We are thrilled to collaborate with The Florida Breast Cancer Foundation to promote their life-saving cause and specialty plate again this year,” said Pinellas County Tax Collector, Charles W. Thomas. “Giving back is very important to our organization and this is a wonderful opportunity to help spread awareness, raise funds, and get one step closer to finding a cure.”

According to the CDC, a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer in the U.S. every two minutes. Despite medical progress and increased awareness, breast cancer remains the most common cancer in the U.S., with 300,590 new cases expected in 2023.

In addition to raising awareness, the FBCF is dedicated to funding innovative research for diagnosing, treating, and hopefully, one day, curing breast cancer. Find more information about the Florida Breast Cancer Foundation at floridabreastcancer.org.
