PINELLAS COUNTY, FL – This February, Pinellas County Tax Collector offices are pumped to partner with the Florida Heart Research Foundation to raise awareness and funds for heart-healthy living.

Tax collector employees are celebrating “Heart Month” by promoting the cause with “National Wear Red Day” as well as collecting customer donations to contribute to heart education and research in Florida.

FL Heart Foundation Merchandise

Customers coming into a local tax collector’s office in February can expect a great selection of Florida Heart Foundation merchandise available for purchase – including car shades, sunglasses, backpacks, bracelets, exercise bands, and more. All merchandise proceeds are sent back to the Florida Heart Research Foundation for use in education and awareness programs.

The tax collector team will also be inviting customers to switch to the “Stop Heart Disease” specialty license plate. The renewal revenue for this plate goes to the foundation for research, education, and prevention grant programs.

“Every February our team is so excited to share ‘Heart Month’ with the citizens of Pinellas,” Tax Collector Charles W. Thomas says. “A happy Pinellas is a healthy Pinellas. We love this opportunity to give back to our community which is one of our core values as an organization – and it feels good to do our part to help against the battle of heart disease.”

According to the CDC, one person dies every 33 seconds in the United States from cardiovascular disease. The condition accounts for about 1 in 5 deaths in the United States. Developing habits such as choosing healthy foods and exercising regularly are essential for preventing heart disease.

The Florida Heart Research Foundation is an international leader in cardiovascular research and education. Since its founding in 1944, the foundation has focused on innovative research efforts to further understand heart disease and its causes, prevention, and treatment. It also funds heart disease education and prevention efforts like “Heart Month.”

Each year the tax collector’s offices support six Florida non-profits, chosen from submitted applications based on the organization’s mission and local impact. The Florida Heart Research Foundation is the first non-profit of 2024. For more information about the organization and the “Stop Heart Disease” license plate, visit floridaheart.org.
