Pinellas Tax Collector Offices Fundraise for Families

PINELLAS COUNTY, FL – On Wednesday, April 27th, Pinellas County Tax Collector, Charles W. Thomas, and members of his team headed to the Ronald McDonald House in St. Petersburg to present a check for $1,725.50 in donations collected by employees.

Each year, tax collector employees nominate and vote for a local non-profit to support for the coming year. Ronald McDonald House was the 2020 chosen charity but due to the unforeseen circumstances of COVID-19, fundraising was interrupted. Employees decided to make up for it and continue to support the non-profit in 2021. Throughout the year, each office came up with internal activities to help raise funds.

Giving back to the community is very important to the Tax Collector’s office and this non-profit has left an extremely positive impact on Pinellas County. Ronald McDonald House Charities of Tampa Bay help families stay close to the hospitals where their children are receiving treatment for various medical challenges. They not only house the families, sometimes for extended periods of time, but also provide meals, toys, and more for these families in need. Tampa Bay houses have served over 50,000 children and families since opening in 1980. “I am proud to see my employees join together and give back to our community,” Tax Collector Charles W. Thomas said, “We are thrilled to support such a reputable organization that provides services to those in need – right here in Pinellas County.”

For 2022, the Tax Collectors’ office voted to fundraise for the Homeless Empowerment Program, located in Clearwater, through a new fundraising initiative: Thread of Hope. Through this new program, employees can provide a donation to participate in a themed clothing day, with all proceeds going to the Homeless Empowerment Program.
